Transcript:
Janis: What on Earth...?!
Arlo: It's the season of Saturnalia!
Arlo: The ancient Roman fete of winter solstice!
Janis: What happens at Saturnalia?
Arlo: Better to ask, what doesn't?
It was Saturnalia long before Christmas and pagans still celebrate it. So no, you don’t get to just pretend those people don’t exist. I applaud the effort, though.
I have been an H. P, Lovecraft fan for many years. I have not, up to this time, seen this bit of poetry. Thank you for sharing this bit from one of the masters of the dark and macabre.

Like many things Roman (and Greek), Saturnalia is NSFW in the authentic version.

And then the Christians started the War on Saturnalia, covered by Fox News.

Arlo needs a “fibula,” and not the leg bone kind. It was an ancient type of safety pin that the Romans used to secure their togas.

And, no, that’s not going to be on the mid-term. Just a factoid I picked up when I lived in Jerusalem.

The winter solstice is the longest night of the year, Janis. What do you think happens? One must spend the time somehow or other…

Is it just my overactive imagination or is the material in Janis’ sweater in panel two tautly stretched between her high beams?

boy! to go back to the days of widespread slavery and pedophilia in ancient Rome before the Christians came and were such downers about everything.
