That’s JAMARCUS Russell, and I take it you don’t follow football.

Russell seems to be talking to the visitors, though.

Ah, Battlin’ Bowa, Ron “Pengo” Cey, and the great Ryne Sandberg. That brings back memories (misty water-color memories…). Get that ball signed by Leon “Bull” Durham, and send it to me. Better yet, have Marla the Ball-Girl deliver it in person. In uniform. (So she’s in her 50’s now. Who cares?)

“Ryne Sandberg” backwards is “Eneer Grebbed-nass”. It’s the top of the sixth, so Harry must be drunk…

@runar Quarterback JaMarcus Russell was the #1 pick in the 2007 NFL draft, out of LSU. He was a major bust for the Oakland Raiders before being released this summer. More about him on Wikipedia.

In the last panel, it looks like “-ous” not “-cus”, and no, I don’t follow football. I couldn’t even tell you who won this year’s Super Bowl.

It looks like”-ous” unless you know it’s “-cus”. I follow football enough that I initially read “Jamarcus”, but when I read runar’s “Jamarous” I could understand his confusion. A similar phenomenon explains why comic book writers are discouraged from using the word “FLICK”, and why, on “Barney Miller”, the credit for producer “Theodore J. Flicker” always gave me a chuckle if I was watching on a set with low resolution.
