As a homage to Calvin and Hobbes, and with great respect to Bill Watterson, ‘Dysconnected’ offers this imagined image of Calvin in a digital age:http://www.gocomics.com/dysconnected/2016/01/29
My take on the “dysconnected” carton link: The artist is showing Calvin buried in his electronic toy, while his comic books, toys, and most importantly, Hobbes, all all around him, unnoticed. For the very first time, Hobbes is just a stuffed toy, even when there is no one else present! Whether Calvin would succumb to this is up for debate, but I have seen people of all ages in the last several years so absorbed in their tablets, i-phones, etc. that they are virtually oblivious to their surroundings and to other living, breathing people sitting right next to them.I sincerely hope that children will continue to use their imagination at play, which,I think, is the point of the cartoon.
At some point, when thugs are subjected to wit and logic, their decision tree reverts to ‘smash the smart guy then he won’t feel so smart’.
There are two choices with thugs: Endure them and hope to eventually disengage. Become capable of protecting yourself and stand up to them.
If you stand up to them without being capable, you get hurt. If you attempt to use wit, sarcasm, or logic on them, you get hurt. If you irritate them, you get hurt.
Ultimately, keeping a low profile or being able to stand up to them without fear and with sufficient force are your options.
Calvin, as depicted in the strip, is in the unenviable position of not being able to avoid or disengage and not being able to defend himself.
