FoxTrot Classics by Bill Amend for August 13, 2010
Transcript:
Andy: Help me out, Jason. I'm torn. Jason: Over what? Andy: According to that salesman over there, rumor has it that the fruit line is due for a major upgrade in a few weeks. So do I buy one now, or wait for the superior model? Jason: What'll it have? A faster processor? More ram? A better 3-D chip? Andy: A lambskin keyboard. Jason: You want to see torn? Watch my hair right now, mother!

Why don’t you let Jason select the new computer, Andy?

Is she playing with him? I thought she was a vegetarian.

Not much of a fan of Macintoshes, Bill Amend, were you?

Love the ‘Think Juicy’ poster in the background.

He probably thought people would get offended if the poster said “Think Fruity” :)
I’ve used computers for a good two decades now, and I can honestly say both Mac and PC are just fine, if you can appreciate that they’re not exactly the same type of tool (and know what you’re after).
Both have the good and the bad and the downright ugly about them (ie, Vista, and Job’s stubborn stance on Flash). I maintain a desktop gaming PC with Windows 7, which I have to admit is miles better than Vista. But for my video editing and graphic design, you just can’t beat the software. Final Cut is fabulous, and hell, even the free movie-making software is pretty excellent.
For casual use, I’ve got an HP netbook running XP which I find fairly grim (but that’s more because I despise the half-size screen, it’s despicable resolution, and the fact that most of the time I can’t find OK / Cancel / Apply buttons on Microsoft tool and option bars). I’m waiting to replace it with a next generation iPad that meets my standards for web browsing and has some cross-over goodies. But if a PC clone does it first and comes up with a good product, that’s ok with me too.

“Think Fruity” was yesterday’s wall poster. Go back and check. :-) I wonder what Saturday’s will show. Those little background tidbits help make FT what it was.
