My world is a sheet of ice. It snowed last nite and this morning and now we have freezing rain. The local PNW has come to a standstill, and nothing is open tomorrow. (the kids are thrilled, another day of winter vacation)! The back yard looks like a skating rink. The news showed people out driving, slip sliding away. The police asked everyone not to drive tonite, so I guess some people will sleep in their office. Those of you back East, stop laughing, we aren’t used to this!

    Slap happy?

It looks as though Gary is absolutely beside himself.

    Doubly so, in fact.

Be careful, Rose! It’s hard to imagine weather like that there. Not only are we unused to extreme cold, out on the West coast, we’re generally unprepared for it.

At least, where I am, if we ever had ice like that, there’d be no equipment to deal with it.

No snow removal trucks, no salt on hand, few emergency vehicles that can drive on ice or help cars stuck in snow.I’m a few hundred miles south of you, so our weather hasn’t been as extreme…even so, we’ve had a lot of nights lately in the low 20’s to low 30’s… some even in the teens.Might not sound cold to you Easterners … but remember…it happens so seldom, very few houses here have good insulation, or double paned windows…many don’t have central heat.Unless they go to the mountains regularly, usually to ski, most people around here don’t own snow tires, chains….or even winter jackets or gloves.

“Slap Happy” is the perfect way to describe some of the denizens of Ballard !

You don’t have to be a bubble off , but it certainly helps.

I hope all my fellow Ballardeers survived the holidays in relatively unscathed and with some semblance of sanity.

Today is Holiday Hangover Helper Day down at the Tiki with libations guaranteed to assist us to forget, forgive, and fast-forward to February ( omitting the January blahs entirely ).

I shall be in my usual chair at the bar upholding this fine early January tradition. The first round is on me !

Wait until Veteran chimes in about slapping. It will be a real education.

Slap Happy? No! He’s too nice to slap.

    Slap Gary!

Good Night Ballard Dears. I am not feeling slap happy or otherwise happy tonight.
