    Good comments, everyone. Thanks.

Just as a technical point, the U.S. has been dismantling nuclear weapons at a rapid clip since the fall of the USSR. I don’t have the numbers memorized (Google them yourself), but we are down to a fraction of our peak. As one example, the U.S. Army no longer has any.

I know how he feels. They are slowly surrounding the house. The nuclear option is starting to sound pretty good!

jtpozenel- Treatment is to kill the grubs they eat (go to your local garden center for specific advice/help). Then, there are special traps you can put in their tunnels which will instantly kill them. But if you don’t kill the grubs first, new moles will replace the others.

Actually, moles prefer earthworms first, then grubs. Getting rid of grubs won’t get rid of the moles unless you somehow find a way to kill off all the worms in your property. Moles don’t really hurt anything (although their burrowing can knock over a plant), just make those unsightly tunnels. If your plants are being eaten you either have gophers or voles.

Experts seem to recommend traps: “Use proper equipment such as harpoon, Nash or scissors traps or Nomol® traps. Traps cause minimal damage to your lawn and certainly not as much as a mole will.

The beauty of trapping is that it works, is safe and is poison free. As for prevention, the only thing guaranteed to work is to pave your lawn which is certainly not cost effective or environmentally sound. Finally, make sure trapping is legal in your state. Unfortunately, states like Washington and Massachusetts have listened to animal rights protest industry groups and banned mole trapping through the ballot box.

No, I don’t work for NoMol, but I KNOW these traps work just as well as claimed, and anything offending such a wonderful human being as jtpozenel is an affront to us all.

Don’t know if they still sell it but milky spore kills the grubs.
