I didn’t read yesterday’s forum till just now…And I see that some people were surmising that Elly didn’t want Connie living right next door…Connie WAS her neighbor, though I think it was a few doors away, in the house where Brian and Dawn live now.and Elly has talked about how much she misses her. She’s not that fond of Anne, who already DOES live next door, what with her dumping her high-maintenance kids all the time on the Pattersons without asking.
So I was wondering whether Elly is maybe still hoping to persuade Phil to buy Mrs. Baird’s house…. which BTW I didn’t think was right next door either.
You’d think I’d remember, having read this strip from the beginning, long ago.
It’s that “long ago” part that gets in the way, though ….. LOL
I’m always on Elly’s side (been there, done that, etc.) but have to confess I can’t read her expression in the last panel. Perhaps she foresees being caught in the middle between Connie and Anne?
Susan, the house that Connie lived in previously (and the Enjos occupy now) was across the street from the Pattersons. Yesterday’s strip identified Mrs. Baird’s house as right next door. I can remember strips where Connie and Elly talk to each other across the backyard fence. I don’t know for sure where Annie lives other than “in the neighborhood”.
I read the expression that Elly is just surprised that Connie really does want the house. Everybody is crazy happy that it all worked out….lady sells her big house….lady buys the perfect house she’s looking for….best friend moves back to town right next door….Mike’s BF, too…..happy, happy, happy.
NeedaChuckleIt depends on how old the neighborhood is. Like most houses in the neighborhood, mine is one story, pier&beam, frame, built as the New Deal caught hold and enlarged after WW-II when lumber was again available; but the one next door and one a block away are slab-on-ground, brick. The house across the street is two story, frame, built after WW-I and recently restored. If old enough, a neighborhood will have a variety, rather than being all neo-Levittown style (with or without brick veneer), or French chateau filmed in Cinemascope but projected without the correcting lens and with negligible yard.
-Eidetic memory involves more than just the visual. It also involves odors and sounds. Someone can recall a past event just from hearing the music that was playing when the event took place, without seeing anything that looks like the event.

I don’t think she’s reluctant about it. Connie did live just across the street from her before. Not much different than being next door.

-Go back and read other comments from that commenter. They are all negative digs at the Elly character.
