When the mouse is away…..This would probably be the moment she shows up or at the very least come to mind that they are supposed to be looking for Holly.
I wonder about the facial expressions in the last panel. Its almost as if Wally and Kirbee have realized that, while they have feelings for each other, Wally sort of belonged to Holly.
As to whether Holly will “like it,” I’d say she has made herself irrelevant. Sure, I feel badly for her that she’s gone psycho—probably not of her own making—but she has made it abundantly clear to Wally that in her mind he is now the enemy anyway. And poor Wally is ashamed of it. Of course this assumes that Holly still “is”…
It may be an illusion, but Chic is having no part of it. And, he’s going to charge Kirbee and Wally through the noses to remain silent when they finally do locate Holly.
I can’t believe that Wally would give up everything with Holly for Kirby, outside events have gotta be playing with his emotions. Holly essentially saved his life, made him accept his transformation, they showed their love in numerous situations.
“As I walk this land of broken dreams, / I have visions of many things. / Happiness is just an illusion, / Filled with sadness and confusion. / What becomes of the broken-hearted? / Who had love that’s now departed? / I know I’ve got to find / Some kind of peace of mind / Maybe…”
I think we learned from Sara and Jim that in certain situations inappropriate for Chic, Lizards and furries are incompatable, so at best Wally and Kirby must be platonic friends. Holly needs to deal with her past, which may be why they are in pre WWIII Hillside, after which time she can deal with her feelings for Kirby, Chic and above all Wally. BTW, Chic is hanging on for dear life. Where’s Irving?
I think Wally does still love and care for Holly, but he’s probably also appreciating the much more simple and straightforward Kirbee. It’s not easy to live with someone who’s mentally ill to the degree Holly is; a relationship with Kirbee must seem refreshingly restful and uncomplicated after all that Wally (and Holly) have been through.
Kirbee is perfect for wally, they can both eat mice…They both would enjoy curling up on a warm rock. And she can reach the stuff on the higher shelves, that Wally can’t. Best of at she isn’t a self destructive bat crap crazy rodent with a huge overbite!
I’m inclined to the theory that this is Holly’s illusion, that it’s something for her from the dittoes—-but that’s ‘cause she went in first. I’ve learned that this strip and Mr. Neathery are unpredictable (for instance, my Christmas card to him went astray and was returned undeliverable), so I’ll wait on further developments to know for sure.
I feel a little torn about this development. On the one hand, I like Kirbee and would like her find happiness with Wally, its just that I don’t like the idea of Wally cheating on Holly. I’m not certain Wally’s comfortable with that either.I started reading this strip shortly after Wally entered Endtown so I know how great Holly used to be, how much she cared for those around her and the history that she and Wally shared. I know that dealing with a mentally ill person is trying on the best of times, and that trying o survive in a wasteland where people are hunting you down is hardly the best of times. Still, I can’t help but feel that Wally belongs with Holly, for better or for worse.
People, people, let’s not get all up in a tizzy about this! There’s a VERY obvious solution to this: polyamory! Though admittedly, I dunno if that might work very well on the Holly/Kirbee part of the equation, but hey, stranger things have happened!

It doesn’t take a Guinness to know that a love triangle is starting to form.

Traumatic events can make people do… odd things.

Kirby… just showed up. Maybe he likes tall women?

The real question is why the illusion? The second would be who is causing it?

Is there any indication that this is an illusion? I’ve checked all 4 panels pretty thoroughly and can’t see any clue at all.

Maybe Wally has a thing for tall younger women as well as short older women.

Kirbee loves Wally, but it almost seems like motherlly love, Almost.Obviously a sexual attraction is obvious, so that is the main difference.
