Calvin is a genius; he has turned his room into an igloo.

Make him sleep in a bed full of melted snow. It’s amazing how enlightened he’ll be by morning.

how did he fit a snowman thru that lil window?

Cue up “Walking in the Air.”

Calvin walking with a smile is enough to create suspicion.

Waterson’s skill is shown in the simple strips like this one; no words, but oh Lord! do I laugh.

Calvin will turn into the world’s greatest thinker / philosopher!

I never noticed the Mom is left handed until now.

Calvin is obviously standing in several inches of snow so, obviously he used the snow on his floor to build the snowman. I am a former middle school math and science teacher. I became a teacher because I wanted to teach kids how to become critical thinkers. That’s not what schools do. Primarily, they teach students how to sit down, shut up and follow directions. In the case of college bound students it’s slightly more complex directions. NCLB just made that worse. I spent far too much time teaching to the test. Memorization is not nearly as useful as being able to solve problems. I would not want my children in the classrooms of most of the teachers I worked with or observed. Far too many teachers think their purpose is to stroke fragile egos. Reliable peer reviewed studies have shown that homework has no measurable effect on academic performance until 8th grade. My oldest son is in first grade and gets homework at least four times a week. They are trying to teach him stuff I wasn’t taught until third grade. I wonder if they are trying to teach him or mold him. There’s more, a lot more but I’ll stop now.

They must have put that window so close to the ceiling to keep Calvin from escaping his room.His next project? Build a snow ladder to the window!

The house is now an arctic. Good day.

He’s still building standard snowmen now, but in unusual places.

OK, I’m lost. l How the heck did he turn his room into the North Pole?

You have to give children credit for finding such outrageous ways to have fun.

I’m curious what stimulated Mom to look into Calvin’s room?

If you won’t let me go outside to play in the snow, I let the snow come inside to play with me!

Look at this way, Mom… at least it’s a NORMAL snowman.

What? Doesn’t everyone build a snowman in their room?

That’s gonna take a lot of mopping to clean up.
