Note to James and Leo….Actually, it’s not that new. You see, the word balloons on planes, ships and spacecraft have “gimbals.”
It’s the same method used to keep the candles and compasses upright on old sailing ships….and still used to keep some cameras from tilting…. a holder that consists of two or more layers, such as rings, spheres or frames, each one pivoting on or inside the next larger…
with a small weight on the bottom of the object to be thus held….
Those old gimbals might be beautiful brass rings:
Modern word balloon gimbals are thin black ink lines… but they really help on smartphones. Actually, it would be nice if they worked in the newspaper too.Hope that helps!
