I used to have one of those flip-number alarm clocks (clock-radio, to be precise). Given its mechanical movement, there would always be a distinct snap sound just before the alarm sounded. Somehow, this snap worked its way into my dreams for about a month. Every morning, just before the alarm fired, something would snap in my dream — step on a twig, break a pencil, close a 3-ring binder, anything that would routinely snap in another environment. I have no idea how that worked.
