When you click “reply,” you get small comment box that contains a snippet of what you’re replying to…. maybe the first couple dozen characters.
If the first thing in that comment was an image, that snippet will contain a cut-off fraction of the code for posting it… which will be meaningless to the browser, so the reply box will be discarded before it even opens.
You can use “reply” only if there’s sufficient text for a snippet before the first image.
All that said, I’ve never figured out why people use “reply”, and have to type in that tiny box…. the comments here aren’t threaded, so it shows up at the bottom anyway…and to me, it’s just as easy to type the name.
