My 15 year old lab/shar-pei mix dog gets to choose from 2 flavors of dry food, some wet food, chicken jerky strips, assorted dog treats and a potato based dental bone. Not all at once, of course. Oh, and whatever we’re eating (if it isn’t harmful to her). Her daily pills come wrapped in microwaved sharp cheddar cheese. She eats when she feels like it, and often lets even the wet food sit until it goes bad and has to be thrown out. Now our grand-beagle, on the other hand, will scarf down anything you put in front of him, and “help” our dog finish her food.

My cats’ appetites have improved considerably since we opened a new bag of cat food. The old one had a slightly “off” smell to it, and the new one doesn’t. Go figure.

My German Shepherd does that sometimes. I read some advice about it and when that happens, I give him his food and go check it two hours later and throw away whatever is left; and the next day he eats all of it at once with gusto or goes and finish it when sees me aproach.
