Rose is Rose by Don Wimmer and Pat Brady for March 06, 2016
Transcript:
Rose: I've been busy number-crunching! Jimbo: Why? I've determined the exact amount we have to save out of each paycheck! And those funds go into a separate bank account...for the sole purpose... Of eventually purchasing... Our dream cottage by the sea! Jimbo: Can we really afford to set aside that much money every month? Rose: For now...let's just celebrate the possibility! Jimbo: And then we're going to have a discussion about the feasibility!

Whenever husband got a raise we took 1/3 of the additional net and saved it (much of it in Series E bonds which had a 4% interest rate floor then), 1/3 of same went towards paying additional principle on our mortgage, and the remaining 1/3 was available for us to use.
Since it was not money we had and were using before, we did not notice it. We paid off our mortgage in 15 years instead of 30 and husband left work at 55 when he got burned out.
