I’m not sure very many younger people today would know what “chalk” is, so the explanation isn’t nearly explanatory enough!

Before they were called chalkboards, they were called blackboards, since they were made of slate, which is a black rock. Green came in by the time my kids were in school. I haven’t checked out any classrooms lately.

Go watch the scene in “Jaws” where the towns people are arguing about what to do about the shark. You’ll see what Thatababy means…

Today’s kids all love chalk for sidewalk art! And, yes, black/chalkboards are still in use. Great cartoon!
