A 4.5 FT, 104 LB giant salamander was recently discovered in a cave outside of Chongqing, China- some think it may be over two centuries old! Well... How bout it? In Vermont, women must have written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth! It takes three generations of monarch butterflies to complete their 2500 mile migration- no butterfly making the journey has ever flown the entire route!

Why would a husband disallow his wife to have artificial dentures? Insurance budgets or something perhaps?

Many such laws are still on the books. Women were considered to be legal “property” until the middle 1960s in much of the USA. It was just another way for husbands to maintain control over their property. But considering the omissions and distortions of items in the current Believe it or Not, it does make me wonder in what context this law is found. When my Dad died in 1959, the only way my Mother could conduct any business was because she was a widow. She couldn’t enter into any legal contract as a woman. It was, and is, based on the notion of the inferiority of women because of the whole religious “wives as subservient to the husband” belief.

I’m not surprised. Butterflies have very short life spans.

There is a book titled “Mischief in the Mountains, Strange Tails of Vermont and Vermonters”. The book is out of print, so look in the library..One story is about a man who tries to marry a widow without getting all of her dead husband’s heavy debt..\\//_

The cave, China, or the salamander?

This sent me researching, and I am going to cry “or not” on the monarch butterfly thing. It is true that no butterfly does it more than once, but the genuine sites that cover this say that a monarch can make the whole round trip once.

If it was found in China it was probably killed cuz that’s what they do to any creature that isn’t a Panda!
