Sometimes, the whole truth isn’t the best idea…

Well he still might get his wish from yesterday. If you are going to proclaim yourself to be stupid at least bask in the glory before making the true situation clear.

I can’t believe he actually accepted them from Jean & gave them to Elly. If he goes through with it, he will be miserable doing something he obviously hates with a passion, which will in effect, then make her miserable, & a total losing proposition for both. I am sure he could have come up with something that would be enjoyable to both. Things like this are what eventually lead to major marriage problems.

My Dad was a reluctant dancer. He told me that as a bachelor in the 30s when he went to these events he’d fill in his Dance Engagement Card with ‘Bar’ to warn off potential partners while maintaining the literal truth. He did dance with my mother though, and both my wife and I learned as children. Even in pop style dances when we were young the last dance would always be a waltz, a gentle let-down from too much twisting and shouting!

If ever have to take balroom dancing lessons, I’m gonna show up dressed as David Bowie’s Goblin King

In the 90’s (1990’s not 1890’s), there was a time when ballroom dancing (mostly swing) was popular, probably due to the popularity of the movie Swingers. It was during this time that a group at my work took classes. The other couples were married and I was the only single one, so I was paired with another single guy. Turns out he had a crush on me, and I found out that taking dance lessons was his excuse to get closer to me. It worked as we dated for a while. What a romantic guy, and I ended up really enjoying the dance lessons!

I nailed it yesterday, said John was going dancing!

He could’ve lied about it. I give him kudos for at least accepting the tickets.

Does anyone else remember having dance lesson in school ?I went to a parochial school and recall the whole class having dance lessons from 6th grade to 8th grade in the gym.That was where I learned the Fox Trot , Waltz, Polka, Cha Cha Cha, and yes, even to Rock n’ Roll ( although it wasn’t called that – heaven forefend ! ). Other dances we learned from Connecticut Bandstand with Jim Gallant and Philadelphia Bandstand with Dick Clark !

One dance lesson, probably 1-2 hours, is something anyone could suffer through to make a spouse happy. Doing it for months? Maybe not.

Waiting for the Elly-haters to point out how she is always so negative and unappreciative of the things John does.

Geez, Lynn, that’s how they danced in Sixties. Was Rudy Vallee still popular when you were growing up?

And no reason for the Elly-haters to come out, masnadies. This is all JEAN’s fault! ;-} Nice story, BTW.

I would have taken full credit for the idea,even if I hated it,and I do!

John claims that he’d hate it, but he hasn’t even tried yet. He might be pleasantly surprised and enjoy dancing very much.

I was required to take dance lessons in my Catholic school 7th & 8th grade classes & hated every minute, & in high school, refused to go to proms, even though classmates offered to pay for any expenses. I did enjoy spending my money on sports cars & flying, which I found extremely enjoyable. Yes, I did find a wife with common interests that did not include dancing. We never “forced” the other to do or “try” something that we knew the other wouldn’t like. Every time I ever did eat or try something that someone said try it, you will like it, I didn’t, without fail.
