Hope the test goes well on your part, John.

So different in John’s attitude towards things now from what it was when I first started reading the strip.

Anyone know, was it always like this or has Lynn’s RL colored how she treats him in the restarts? That is if she is even still editing things like when this first restarted

I hate how Lynn’s writing John now that her and her ex broke up? He’s basically a donkey’s butt

Strange haircut in panel 4. As I have been saying recently, I don’t think this situation works well for a healthy marriage.

A lot of marriages can’t stand the test of time.

He messed up. One lesson, along with “it doesn’t fit our schedule” or “I dropped another frozen turkey on my foot” makes for a nice memory. A long committment to something you hate is hard.

Nobody is perfect, and finding yourself with different interests (at least one different or greatly-increased interest!) than a spouse, 10+ years later, is more common than not. John and Elly can be a little stereotyped, but I’d be lying if I didn’t see this sort of reaction all the time, even in “enlightened” days, men aren’t supposed to want to entertain their wives in romantic ways.

As “sensibilities” changed over the years, John became a lot less of a jerk. There was a lot of loving, caring, supportive behavior in the later years. I suppose as masnadies said, some of it came from developing separate interests. (No spoilers. Suffice to say that in the later years, John wasn’t nearly the insensitive clod is was in the first few years.)

comicsssfanOur first divorced president? Nancy was totally submissive, Jane had a mind (and superior talent) of her own.

Lynn Johnston has been married more than once. Presumably John is copied from her second husband. What happened to the first husband?

Other than the biological fact that Reagan had to have had a mother, I know nothing about her, and I doubt you do either. During WW-II, Ronald joined Fort Roach (as many in the movie business were pressured to do, not knowing the reason) and did not venture farther than their Bel Aire mansion and the Hal Roach studios army base, so apparently he could stand her then. The break came when she won an Oscar he never could. He even joked that he would name Johnny Belinda as corespondent and thought it very funny.
