It’s possible because that same, supposedly, modern intelligent man still believes a god is somehow responsible for pretty much everything.
Now which god to believe in when there are so many to choose from? I’m partial to the Zeus and Hercules story myself. I’m convinced that’s the source of the jesus myth that’s so popular with the christians. Why go with the copy when the original myth is still just as valid.
Anyway, believing in such bunk as astrology is such a short leap from there.

When I bother to read horoscopes, I find them to be either possibilities or good advice for anybody, regardless of birth date.
