Norman: Dad, I've decided to run for class president! Ralph: Really?? I thought you were terrified of public speaking! Won't you have to debate on TV? Norman: Yes. But after talking to Patrick, I feel very confident! Ralph: Can you make me a better golfer? Patrick: I'm a hypnotist, not a miracle worker!

I was quite involved in hypnotism in high school and college, and was really pretty good, but the risks are huge. First of all, you are essentially playing with the human will, and second, the temptation to play god is ever present. I know first-hand how powerful it is, but I haven’t touched it for almost 50 years.

A few years ago I was an on-stage participant in a Vegas hypnotism show. It was fun, and I clearly remember ‘performing’. I had the mind-set of “why not?” (but the details will stay in Vegas…)
