Tracy grinned because he knew that yet againRemaining incognito was as elusive as Rocky’s chickenOver the years he endured names as hurtful as could beBut he actually enjoyed being compared to James CagneyPerhaps this giant hairy brute of a dudeMight actually display an attribute beyond ugly, smelly and rudeHe certainly had Dicks attention to the point that Tracy missedThe unsanitary sharing of a drag from the right to the left man’s lips! DJ’S evasive answers reminded Tracy of a pop quizAdministered at the academy by the legendary JPuzzleWhizHis only fear was that very soon the peace might come crashing downAnd the grin that Tracy currently had would quickly become a frown.
.Enjoyed my day off but missed all the Action!.Everyone have a stupendous day!
First time I’ve seen something like this… DJ has a self-correcting tattoo… LOLIt was TIERRA the first time we’ve seen it on Feb 14 and now it is TIERRO.
Well, apparently, DJ has no problems speaking English. As for the explanations, readers of this board already figured them out, with some thanks to a very good hint from Mike Curtis. Mere mortals in the general reading public don’t have that advantage.
.Thanks, guys, for making yesterday a very memorable and happy day for me! Thanks again, Mike and Joe for including Vista Bill in the world of Dick Tracy!
Gweedo reminded,We really tore up the old cemetery didn’t we, Bill !?-———————————————————————————-.What a day! So pleased that you were a part of the ‘monster mash’, Gweedo! Good morning!
*@Neil WickThat’s where the present story’s DJ gets his name and his “Dirty deeds” philosophy. Also, it’s where Cheap Trick got their song title.
Wasn’t that actually AC / DC? Or did Cheap Trick cover it?*It came out in the comments a few days ago that Angus Young, of AC/DC, used to watch the Beanie and Cecil cartoons as a kid, and remembered the phrase"Dirty deeds done dirt cheap." I’m not a big fan of AC/DC music, although Angus’ guitar work is technically excellent, so I don’t know much about them. Don’t know if Cheap Trick covered the song or not.
DJ, Dishonest John, is not such a “dumb lunk” as his appearance fools a lot of people into believing. He speaks English as well as Spanish; he recognizes the famed detective from Tracyville; his tattoo alters itself at his pleasure; and he has a sense of humor, warped but as big as he is—which is very, very big indeed! He is a useful ally, or a dangerous foe….
Hmmm… if Dishonest John had been named Dishonest Dave (or another name beginning with a ‘D’), his name and slogan would have all the words beginning with a ‘D’!
Wasn’t that actually AC / DC? Or did Cheap Trick cover it?
No, it was AC/DC, of course. I think the word “cheap” was messing with my mind. I wrote that just after I woke up and my brain was not fully in gear, I suspect. Somehow, it didn’t sound right when I wrote it, but I let it go anyway.
Sorry about introducing Cheap Trick into the discussion. I’m not much of a music fan and when I do listen to music, I often have no clear idea who the artists are behind the songs. It was easy for me to let a mistake like that one slip through.
Thank you everyone! I didn’t see anything announced that we would be leaving Notta and Blaze. That’s why I was confused. I hope we get back to those two soon.
I haven’t been around much, internet connection problems. Anyway, I have an observation based on today’s strip. Is it just a coincidence or have Tracy and his associates been using information from underworld contacts now much more than they used to? It seems that the evidence work in the lab has now been replaced by meetings with guys with info such as Pouch. I know Tracy has been drifting away from crime lab work since Gould retired. Just seems a little odd to me that in an era where CSI is popular that Tracy would be going in the opposite direction. Any thoughts on this?
Actually, I hadn’t said that it peaked in 1880, just that it was very popular in the decade of the 1880s and I thought it peaked before 1900, but I was too early in that guesstimate.

Still one scary dude! As a matter of fact, I can’t think of a scarier looking character in the history of this strip!

Mike Curtis already let us know what “DJ” stands for, but it’s always good to have the information appear in-story as well.

Going forward if anyone would like me to use your name in one of my silly poems just post a comment requesting it and I’ll gladly create one.

Dishonest John was also one of the baddies of “Beanie & Cecile Show” as well.
