And usually, whenever one finds the battery cable, the rest of the car—or parts of it—are nearby and in the same condition, just like that Pinto at the bottom of Lexington Reservoir south of Campbell, California, that makes an appearance every time the water level is low.
True story: The family car of one of my high school chums was a Pinto…with Firestone 500 tires. Needless to say, I never accepted a ride from them… ;^.^
This is the last appearance of Alphonzo, the boy behind Opus. Exactly one month from this strip’s original publication is the first appearance of Oliver Wendell Jones.
One line I have loved from a TV movie was the response to an 18yo’s question: “Mom, what’s a Yugo?”“It’s a car built before you were born, in a country that no longer exists.”
My dad bought a new Lancia. I remember reaching down for the seat belt and its cover near the floor of the car snapped right off. And it was not a cheap car.
Hey, I drove one of those, and it was great. I didn’t worry about the gas tank, with the V6 in it there was practically nothing that could catch up to it.
Please bring back Portnoy and Hodge Podge in the new strips, BB. We need their hilarious antics as the Meadow Party election campaign heats up. My prediction is that Portnoy will be hired by the Trump campaign to create Hillary attack ads and Hodge Podge will be hired by the Clinton campaign to create Trump attack ads. And at the end of each day, Port and Hodge will sit at the bar together drinking beer, mutually unaware of each others’ work.

Nope. It was the fuel tanks that we had to beat down.

Alphonzo being a riff on Cosby’s Fat Albert, if I recall.

As if the Pinto did not suffer enough shame from its gas tank.
