I certainly expect the president to be able to fix a blown out oil well. Isn’t that part of the job qualification?

^ The government is an expert on deep water oil drilling. That’s why the government has its own deep water oil drilling research facilities. *

No bets, MMS regulations define the wall thickness of well casings, BP was in violation. The REMOVAL of inspectors under Bush wasn’t something that could be an “instant fix”, and MANY violations led to the spill, AND the inability to cope with a very difficult situation where greed surpassed technology.

Putting a “hold” on these wells in deep water was the RIGHT thing to do. So, the “right” whines about a few drilling jobs, when huge impacts have resulted- and not been seen yet.

The “news” today was going on about not seeing oil slicks. THAT is NOT THE PROBLEM!! It is what they can’t “see” that will create problems long into the future. They”re also already reporting those busy little biological agents will “fix it”- - not!

Releasing REAL “classified” documents that could harm our troops is treason, and also violation of international laws and agreements. Most of the stuff seems just “junk mail”, and the NY Times apparently went over what they released with the Pentagon.

My son has been places where “leaks” could prove fatal, and my “tolerance” level is very low on this, but don’t think this rises to that level.

The real “leak” is right-wingers urinating on this administration through any means, and ignoring how the previous administration “defecated” repeatedly on our troops, vets, and foreign nationals.

Yes, let’s fault the president for not being omniscient. Certainly he should know the name of every soldier and what they are doing right this second. And this second. And this…

There is no penalty for treason against the US anymore.

Daniel Ellsberg of the Pentagon Papers fame should have been tried for treason and executed upon conviction.

Failure to do that opened the flood gate - no one is even considering some serious prosecution for the current event.

Aside of the fact that it is a clear breach of our security, there are several people, particularly Afghans and Pakistanis that dared to work with us, at risk …

Ellsberg was tried, and the case fell apart because of government misconduct. The judge said “The totality of the circumstances of this case which I have only briefly sketched offend a sense of justice. The bizarre events have incurably infected the prosecution of this case.”

Anyone who really believes that the powers of the government should be limited ought to agree that the case should have been thrown out.

You’ve got a point, petergrt. Bush and Cheney should have been shot for treason: lying to the American people to benefit personally from a false war, helping the Bin Laden family leave the US when ALL other planes were grounded after 9/11, forming personal relationships with Saudi Arabia (bin Laden’s home and the source of most of Al Queda’s money), etc. Not to mention Ollie North, who even admitted to treason. Shameful, isn’t it?

A perfect illustration of the insanity that comprises the position of President of the United States. Who, in their right mind, would want this idiotic job for a measly $400,000 a year!? And, indeed, who, after surviving the job after four years would spend another dime to be reelected to it for another four years!? Guess all of that power and influence has perks that I cannot perceive.
