Truman (Tru(e)) Standish, 17 drowned this evening as he attempted to drive to Hawaii to celebrate his choice of schools. Survivors include his father, Art (Not for long though.) his mother ( Who we’ve never seen.) and his girlfriend Addison (Boo) Radley, herself still morning the loss of Harper Lee.
Reaction to this tragedy has been swift. His father, Art remembered him as a fine son and a great athlete. " I really was hoping he would go to UCLA but I supported his decision to attend Wake Forest. Maybe he can make them the UCLA of the east. Wait, where have I heard that before? He was my meal ticket, er, son and I loved him. God how he loved those gadgets. All that Facesitting and Twittering. I’ll really miss that. The last words I said to him before he left was turn off that GPS. Those damn things will kill you. This is the big one, I’m coming to join you!"
From Wake Forest coach Dan Clawson: This is a terrible tragedy for the Standish family, the Milford community and the entire Demon Deacon Nation. I really believe Tru(e) had the potential to be the greatest Wake Forest quarterback since Norm Snead. Snead went on to a career in the NFL. His claim to fame was being traded from the Washington Redskins to the Philadelphia Eagles for Sonny Jurgensen.Jurgensen went on to a Hall of Fame career in D.C. and is still a revered figure and broadcaster there to this day. Snead, on the other hand is reviled in Philadelphia and the fans there still believe this was the worst trade in team history.
Mike Rizzo, Washington Nationals GM also remembered Tru(e) as a potential star reliever. "We had planned to send scouts to Milford in late July when baseball season starts and were prepared to sign him to a lowball contract to replace that loudmouth Paplebum. We were impressed last year by his 90 plus fastball and his ability to occasionally throw strikes. My condolences to Tru(e)’s family and friends.
Tru(e) came to Milford under mysterious circumstances in the summer of 2014. Despite severely spraining his ankle walking down the street and missing all of the preseason practices, Tru(e) led the team to the state championship (God knows which state.) This season, despite fighting off more injuries, a porous offensive line and Dora the Explorer, he continued to shine, but the team floundered. Former State Champion Coach Gil Thorp had this to say about Tru(e). "He was a great player and really, like the son I never had (cough, cough). My heart goes out to his family and friends. Oh and by the way, would you like to buy one of these State Champion Coach Gil mugs? Only a dollar. C;mon man, help a brother out, I’ve got a whole garage full of these damn things.
P1- No Captain Jean Luc Picard jokes you chuckleheads, that’s longtime Milford HS trainer Rick Scott, aiding to GilPa’s success by firmly taping ankles, warming up whirlpools, prescribing salt tablets and hot showers. P3- I bet that’s Milford Gazette sports reporter Marjie Ducey. Have we seen her since August? A little help here HooDad.
P-1: stop massaging my leg. It’s the other ankle.P-2: To show his support, Gil wears a leg brace for the wrong ankle, takes off his suit coat, rolls up his sleeves, but refuses to loosen his tie.P-3: Androgynous person with a “murse” walks onto gym floor making comments implying the Mob wants Kenzie to, ahh, miss one of those underhanded shots; or she might end up like Kenny Brown. Or as Monty Python would say: “You’ve become a good player Kenzie. It would be a shame if you caught fire”.
Given Brown’s injury and Kenzie’s size and apparently incredible ability to master basketball so quickly, it might be time to move her up to the boy’s team.
@Brown Star Fish: Breaking news, Tru Standish has been rescued by the Us Coast Guard. It seems Hope Solo was “accompanying” Tru on his drive to Hawaii. Tru credits Ms. Solo for saving his live. "I remembered hearing “Hope Floats”.
Yes – that is Big Ken Brown in P2. Check out the color strip, you can tell that thing on his leg is a boot. Another problem he has is he’s having wild pigmentation swings, he’s going from white to black between games: Link to color version

Uh oh, is that the rugby coach?

Chip, maybe Milford’s in or near Colorado, where USA Rugby’s training facilities are located.

Dr. Phil is the team doctor?
Big Kenny Brown looks lost now that he no longer makes it all happen.
Nice rink in P3. Could Menzie be switching to hockey now that she’s mastered basketball?

A nice twist to this plot would be if in P.2 Gil had his pants down around his ankles!

P3- That’s strange…there was little mention of the farm accident that Ken(zie) was involved in…

I think today’s artwork is the worst it’s been in a while — and that’s saying something. It’s like Whigham isn’t even trying to draw well.
miffedmax over 8 years ago
Why did Ken Brown make that happen?
gzitver over 8 years ago
Is there something a little odd about Kenzie’s arms in P3? Does Whigham have a problem with the whole “arms folded in back” perspectrive?

Gil got a soul patch in panel two?

Can anyone identify that contraption in front of Gil’s right leg? It looks like it’s holding a set of cutlery.

So… will Gil decide to have Kenzie officially declared eligible to replace Ken Brown on the boy’s team? “Hey, just look at her! Er, I mean, him!”

Cousin ‘Itt’ appears in panel one today.

The team physician is Dr. George Zahorian. Gil is the only one whould wire him after the WWF scandal. I wonder if he is giving Men(zie) steroids.

One last observation. In panel three are they standing beside the MCC indoor swimming pool? Are the feet in the upper right Mimi and Pedro?

Think of all the basketball action they could have shown, yet all we get is people standing around.
