Economics does not favor blimps. They are not much faster than a boat – and a boat can carry more across the ocean. On land, a truck or train is cheaper and just as fast.
The main advantage of a blimp would be carrying cargo across terrain with no roads or railroads.
I would use a hydrogen blimp. It is not flammable until mixed with oxygen. The gas envelope would need compartments to keep a breach in one compartment from contaminating others with oxygen. Yes, a breach allowing oxygen in, and a source of ignition would set of a chain reaction that would pretty much be the end of that blimp. One safety measure would be to quickly vent hydrogen from a breached compartment.
