Reminds me of a knockoff Zippo lighter I almost bought. It was bright chrome with a big American flag emblazoned all over the side of it. It didn’t look half bad – though not nearly as good as a genuine Zippo. When I flipped it over and saw “made in China” instead of “Zippo” on the bottom, I showed it to the guy who was selling it. He said he had never noticed – hadn’t even thought to check to see if it was genuine. Upon which he promptly threw it on the ground and crushed it with his boot.
Canada – best country, bar none, in the world! We’re tolerant, we’re polite, and we have universal health care. Not to mention a sensible political system with SHORT campaigns!
I remember seeing an old Carhartt sign on American Pickers proudly proclaiming “Union Made.” Around the same time, they were running a string of ads touting American hard work and patriotism. But I looked at my Carhartt shirt, and it said “Made in China.” If they hadn’t been running the BS ads, I’d have given them a pass, but, as it is, it’ll be a long time before I buy that brand again.
You all act like this is new. It isn’t. Back in the 17th century, British aristocrats were buying dinner services with their family crest on them. They’d send a drawing of their crest and the pottery manufacturers would send them back plates and cups with their crest painted on them. Where were the potters? In China. The capacity to manufacture on an industrial level at a low price – i.e. low labour cost – even if it happens to be overseas beats manufacturing domestically every time.
When I got US c’ship a few years ago, a local Ladies Club had made up goodie bags for the 3 new Americans, including a thoroughly patriotic-looking yuuge coffee mug – guess where it was made?….
Its a shame that some people have to politicize everything. Including a WONDERFUL Comic strip. Note I’m so old school, that I remember when “Made in Japan” was a bad thing.

Shouldn’t he have said, “Eh, I’m Canadian. Sorry.”

It is too expensive to make things here because poverty wages prevail elsewhere. But America voted to send its jobs away… And, so on…
