Toss it out and you’ll find out what it opens a day or two later. Best to just keep it in the drawer of whatzits.,

It must cost a bundle to make a new lock for a lockless key.

Oh that one, it belonged to the house you were in 3 moves ago. You remember, the little lock on the cupboard in the garage? No, not that one, the one on the left side above the stationary tub.

My wife does that. A rack full of keys hung on the ’fridge. Personally, I hate locked doors.

We sorted through all our keys about a year ago. There were only about 4 that we couldn’t identify, so we put them on a key chain marked “unknown” just in case…..

I have a beautiful mission style dresser that’s an antique. I had no key for the drawers so had one made by a locksmith. Then…..somebody told me never to lock it as a burglar would simply jimmy the lock with a crowbar and ruin the piece of furniture. Can’t win.

Glad to know I’m not the only one with a bunch of old keys to unknown doors and cars. ;-)

We sold Master Padlocks; in fact, we sold thousands of them! Every so often, a customer would come in asking if they could get a key or combination for a Master Padlock they owned, and we would tell them if they brought the lock in to us, we could get an original key set or combination using the coded number embossed on the padlock.

Of course, sometimes they would tell us the padlock is attached to a “locked” cabinet, and we would just smile and explain to them unless we have the padlock in hand, we could not help.

You should appreciate why we had to handle it this way…
