When I was a kid, my parents would go grocery shopping on Friday, and that was that. If we ran out of ketchup on Wednesday, ketchup would “go on the list” and we would make do until Friday. Now, we run back and forth to the store all the time, sometimes getting one item only. So it’s a little quaint that Arlo would fire up a grill without enough charcoal. If I was him, I know I would just go down and get a bag. My father, who was smarter than me, would “put it on the list” and go back to whatever he was doing, likely a more pleasant task than going yet again to the store.
Growing up I spent summers with my Grandparents who lived outside of Klamath Falls, Ore. We took twice a month shopping trips into town, remember the idea of putting it on the list as well as always making sure that you had an extra of the product as a reserve against running out.
I never run out of charcoal, I can tell when it is getting low and buy more. Same with everything else I use. He must be the type of person who goes shopping on Christmas Eve, surprised that it is coming on December 25.

Why is he cooking only one at a time? Even a hibachi can hold a couple.

Gas is the way to go. Our grill is connected to the 1000 gallon tank behind the house. Gauge, what gauge?

When they switched to type of handle on the tanks. I picked up a couple of old ones for the free trade in. Now I always have one in reserve.

I thought he was a master griller? And he ran out of charcoal?? Does not compute (…..or amuse!)
