Love broccoli, also Brussels sprouts, asparagus and boiled cabbage. I guess it’s all in the upbringing, My parents loved them as well, or at least pretended they did.The only veggie I hated when I was young were bell peppers, they tasted “green” to me. In college I finally got tired of picking them out of my food (and tired of the kidding) so I got over it.
The traditional way of cooking was to boil vegetables to death so you were served a pile of green mush. And all members of the cabbage family like Brussels sprouts get a very bad taste if they are over cooked. They need to be undercooked to be tasty. I think that’s where all the aversion comes from.

You did good kid! Broccoli should be listed under the Geneva Conventions as cruel and unusual punishment.

Didn’t mind any veggies as a kid but I am sure glad that I have learned better ways to cook them now.
