Alex: Drew? It's me! Gotta talk fast, Leo just went to pay the check! Okay, so we were having jealousy flashes, so I said we should just take our relationship to the post-jealousy stage, and he agreed! Drew: Are you sure? What were his exact words? Alex: "Roger that." Drew: You must be walking on air. Alex: He's coming back! Act naturally!

What the hell is the “post-jealousy” stage? I’ve never met someone who could give up jealousy.

Who’s this guy Roger, and how does he wind up in so many conversations?

I don’t think stebon would recognize satire if it bit him in the ass.

^I believe stebon’s attitude toward relationships explains a lot about the rest of his posts.
I cheer for this young couple. And I love that last panel: “He coming back. Act natural!”

“post-jealousy stage”? Is that something like a mutual taking for granted stage?

UMm, GBT is a little out of touch here. Alex would be texting all of this. In fact, during the whole meal, both would have been texting or checking texts, unless they are misfits that buck trends.

No, some of us still rely on and prefer voice communication for instances of meaningful moments.

@sandfan —who’s Roger? I’m still trying to figure out who this poor guy Will is that everyone with a gun or cannon is firing at.

You think maybe Leo’s jealous of Roger?
Nemesys over 14 years ago
I’m thinking that Alex is an INTJ. Everything, including romance, has an established conceptual pattern and process by which success can be measured and evaluated against. If bleeep happens, re-evaluate, reconfigure, and start a new checklist.
Leo is likely an ISTP. Also reserved, a little more detail oriented, but having some fun, doesn’t take things (including himself) too seriously, and actively deals with life’s speed bumps as they come along.
For those interested in typography, this combination has a reasonably good chance of long-term success.
Many conservatives, btw, tend to be NT’s, while liberals lean towards NF. People who change affiliations often are SP’s. The majority who don’t get excited either way are often SJ’s. According to Jung, these 4 “temperment” combinations comprise everyone on the planet.

If a Brit said ‘roger that’ they might mean something else entirely - you’d need the tone of voice to know!

Tigger, maybe so, but now that Alex knows she’s hot, there’s plenty of time for her to hook up with the Red Rascal.

Neolib betrays her Manichaean outlook in two comments today, one voicing contempt for Reagan’s presidency and the other forcing Jung’s gnostic psychology upon these cartoon figures. By the way, only a shrink would base judgments on intuition instead of upon objective facts.

Nemesys - I think your MBTI’s are mostly BS, although I’ve run into a couple of WTFs
Nemesys over 14 years ago
Well, longtime, the MBTI is the most widely used assessment in the world, used by just about every Fortune 100 company in the past 20 years. It’s not perfect, but it’s been validated extensively and has some very practical applications in career counseling, team building, and relationship counseling (same thing, mostly).
I’m certified by the APT to use it for certain applications, and obviously figuring out romantic compatibility of comic strip characters isn’t actually one of them. However, the best storytellers use temperment preferences to shape consistant ,realistic characters. If we’re rooting for these 2 (as most of us are), it is partically because we “know” them well as a result of being familiar with their psychological preferences as GT has blessed them with.

Clark Kent,
“Roger” is voice radio for “Received message OK” and “Wilco” is “Will comply”.
