Percival Dunwoody’s not exactly helping his case here. I’ve never heard of “Oh! You Kid! Oh!”, but hit songs of 1909 included “By the Light of the Silvery Moon”, “From the Land of the Sky-Blue Water”, “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now”, “On Wisconsin”, “Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet” and “The Whiffenpoof Song”.

All the times I’ve spent drawing things on Tumblr have finally paid off: I’m an artist. (When do I get paid?)

Dunwoody paraphrases “(I Love my Wife But) Oh! You Kid!“ because he is an idiot. There were other songs on that theme. Back then, any modest success instantly produced sequels, responses, and parodies. If I recall correctly, Roberts wasn’t the first, but his song is an improvement over the one Jones and Murray sang.

Google it! I loved the old wind up Victrola as a kid. The Youtube presentation is great, good sound quality and a bunch of nice pics. Also shows the truth of “sauce for the goose….” I had the impression that Oh You Kid was a bit more modern. Not the first time I’ve been wrong!

Three songs with similar titles came out in 1908 or 1909; the third was the big hit, that then spawned its own variations. Actually a very interesting story.

If the Uncertainty Principal isn’t coming, that means he’s probably stationery. In any case, this is a capitol comic.
