Sadly, I am that old, and then some. I remember gas wars where the price could get down to under $0.20 per gallon, and dad’s Lucky Strikes were a dime a pack. If you filled up your tank, you’d get dishes AND either Scotch Stamps or S&H Green Stamps. Our family dinnerware basically came from gas stations. Dad said why buy them when you got them from the station for free?
The new “Cosmos” had a whole episode about that. You have to wonder what other industrial chemicals added to the environment and even food will eventually be found as harmful to huge groups of people.
