When my son was little, he couldn’t wrap his mouth around Grandma and instead it came out as BeBa. She’s been BeBa for 16 years and we all call her that now.

My kids confused Granddad and Daddy and came up with Graddy. Now our grandkids call my husband Graddy. I think it is a good word.

One of the little ones at church couldn’t manage Pop-pop, and he was known as Bebop. Still is.

We left England when I was three, and didn’t return till I was nineteen. When I met my (one surviving) grandmother for the first time in sixteen years I had no idea what I should call her!

Funny how she mentions Gump-Gump and Grum-Grum. My cousin and I used to call our great-grandma on my mom’s side Gram-Gram. For some reason my cousin’s kids couldn’t say Gram-Gram when our grandma became a great-grandma. They call her Gumm-Gumm. Very similar to what Katy was coming up with.

Funny, in part because it reminds me when my daughter was small, and she made up names for my Dad. Amazingly, she actually made one up that stuck, and we still use it to this day!

My mother’s father was the only living grandfather I had growing up. He was called as Grandpa. Now I just refer him as Clarence. My stepmother’s father (before he died) was Melvin. As for my father’s father (who died before I was born), I refer him Granddad Harley (to differentiate him from his great-grandson {my father’s grandnephew} also named Harley).
