I see part of your problem, Dorothy: expectations. You expected your air bag to deploy and protect you, completely forgetting that your old VW bug never had one.
According to the recent news, that air bag has a 1 in 5 chance of killing her had it gone off anyway. Somehow I think those odds are worse than no air bag.

She’ lucky it didn’t deploy. Another driver was killed yesterday when the air bag threw shrapnel into her face.
