What’s so great about that? Brewsky doesn’t do any of those things either.

You also have to deal with viruses, worms, trojans, and all sorts of other nasty stuff.

Why don’t trojans protect you from being infected like they do in real life?

Bottom line here is that even with the advanced science of the future, pop-ups are inevitable.

There’s an ad for the popular newspaper game “Jumble” on mine. That is, until I post this comment.

There goes Dr Mel (aka: Tim) with the product endorsements again! Can we flag a cartoonist?

Not unless the cartoonist writes to us, as dr.mel sometimes does.

I hope this strip isn’t the future of advertising.

He needs to install Adblock Plus. It works for me!

Huh? I get very few ads with IE and it has a clearly-marked pop-up blocker (which I use). Of course it may be reinforced by one or more toolbars imported from other sources, with their own blockers.

I know I say that to someone a whole lot more tech-savvy than I am, but your comment doesn’t fit my experience.

You can’t do anything fun, either. No more bacon, beers, or babes.

@Johanan Rakkav I suspect you may be confused about the difference between regular ads and pop-up ads.

When I view this page in Firefox with Adblock Plus, the only ad I see is for the Brewster Rockit book. When I view this page in IE, I see that, plus an ad for Jumbles, as well as an ad for Allstate Insurance and an ad for K12.com (some sort of child education program, I’m guessing).

All of these are “regular” ads, served up with the web page itself. In contrast, a pop-up ad opens a new browser window, which you have to close separately.

So it’s his fault that I get all the Netflix popups when I log on to Go Comics. I never get them anywhere else.
