They’re doing the same thing today. A lot of the roar you hear from today’s sportier cars is recorded or generated. It’s not really the engine.

Years later, when Snoopy was the whirly-beagle, he made even sweeter sounds……..

I made a sled-type go-cart with a large board and 2×4s for axles, and wheels bolted on the end. I lay on my belly and off I went down the hill. Until I got to the turn; then my legs swung into the outside rear wheel. Ouchies! Next step: add some inboard fenders.My first skateboard was one of my sister’s old clamp-on roller-skates nailed to a piece of wood; we sat on it to ride down the hill, and eventually graduated to standing. It was barely steerable. Then for Xmas we got real skateboards! Wow, what a year. Amazing when I think back on how poor we actually were, and how little we kids noticed or cared.
