    @Chad Cheetah: What Stephen Treadwell says it’s true, but you can also consider it a different shirt. In the special You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, you can see his closet is full of t-shirts with different colors, but the same zig-zag pattern. Of course, yellow must be his favorite.

    Several sources claim the term comes from the Marx Brothers, but usually don’t say which film. Some claim that the Marxes borrowed the joke from “others” unnamed. I found one attribution to their movie “Animal Crackers” and the character Captain (or is it Admiral?) Spaulding (or is it Spalding?), but I can’t find an exact quote or film clip. So, though I’ve repeated the Marx attribution for years, now I doubt it.
