There’s a book called “Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window” by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi that deals with just this scenario (in real life). In pre-war Japan, she was expelled from nursery school for being “disruptive” (in those days, just a normal kid). Her parents were so ashamed they put her in an “alternative school” that is actually pretty cool. Kuroyanagi grew up to be an actress and writer.
