There was a Sunday strip where Lucy knocked away Charlie Brown’s croquet ball so far away that it stopped at a phone booth (remember those?). CB called and said to call him when it was his turn and gave the seven digit number (remember those too?). The number was Lee Mendelson’s number. Lee was the producer of the Charlie Brown animated specials. When the strip came out Lee got lots of prank calls. His daughter answered one where a young boy asked if Charlie Brown was there. She responded, “No, this is Lucy. If you like you can leave a message.” After that the boy immediately hung up the phone.
