You know, this went right over my head the first time I read it years ago, because I didn’t know what “homely” meant. Even today, I’m still not sure what Charlie Brown and Violet were arguing about that he found vindication by appealing to the dictionary. Were they arguing about whether “homely” is a compliment (which I thought it was, until my mother overheard me telling my younger brother that HE had a homely face!)?
Simply Violet being wrong and changing the subject and being her usual mean girl self because she can’t admit she’s wrong or take criticism. Not that ANYONE acts like that today…
