This actually reminds me of my mother, ironically. She’s very polite when she feels awful, because she assumes she’ll be crabby and stops herself from saying anything rude. When she’s better, she stops watching her mouth and doesn’t care what comes out so much.

Wonder if this was the only time the word “ornery” was used to describe Lucy. Usually it was “Fussbudget” or “crabby”.
