As many times as I have seen this particular strip, this is the first time that I have noticed Calvin sticking his tongue out in panel 3.

It was the possibility of a kid like Calvin that convinced my wife and me to have a dog, Somehow, I imagine that Calvin’s parents wish they’d done the same.

Just half? If I were Calvin’s babysitter, I’d ask for 200%, half refundable after completion of the evening’s duties, assuming I survive without physical or mental damage.

And this, by the way, is our introduction to Rosalyn, the one person on the planet whom Calvin truly fears because she’s also the one person on the planet who won’t put up with his nonsense for one minute, and they both know it!

I never had anyone babysit me except family, like my grandmothers.

Being a guy that grew up on a farm with work and hunting dogs I always considered Dachshunds to be only suited for little old lady’s laps and little kids. That is until I was stationed in Germany. I was dating a woman who invited me to her family’s farm. The morning after we arrived her father invited me to go hunting with him. He then called his two wiener dogs" handed me a baseball bat and grabbed his burl wood club and we headed out. Boy, was I confused. After walking into the Black Forest for some time we came to a tree with a hole dug into the base. He then called one of the dogs and without hesitation it shot down that hole. Several moments later we could hear the dog growling like a V-8 engine and suddenly it’s tail popped out wagging soon followed by his teeth clamped tight to the butt of a badger which my girlfriend’s father clubbed over the head. A delicious badger stew followed that evening. I now have a huge respect for this brave heart little hunting dog. Especially, when you consider that a badger can back down a full grown grizzly bear.

What would be the point of Rosalyn getting the half up front? She planning to leave Calvin alone to go shopping, or order a pizza instead of raiding the fridge?

I imagine Rosalyn now owns a vacation home thanks to all the Calvin money she made

Either Rosalyn is very brave or very ambitious. One must wonder how much Calvin’s mother pays her. I hope she also has good insurance. On a side note, I love Calvin’s tongue sticking in panel 3.
