I was in a university biology class where we had to cut off a frog’s head with scissors and then jam a probe down its spine — creating a ‘pithed’ frog. That grossed me out.
This is one of the things they cut back on, which is why boy’s aren’t doing as well in class as they use to.As boys like to learn by doing, girls are far less open to slicing but happy to learn from reading.

I managed to dodge biology in high school, but finally had to dissect a frog in college. I don’t know why the frog was in college….

In a lot of classes the kids had to put a live frog in a “killing jar” before dissecting it. Hence the ethical dilemma for many a child.
