I’ve heard Journey referred to as heavy metal, but I don’t recall Pink Floyd being grouped in that category. A good many metal heads do appreciate “The Wall”, though.

It would appear that neither character knows what heavy metal music is. Pink Floyd falls under Progressive rock or even Psychedelic rock, or perhaps both if you will. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Tesla fit the heavy metal category.

Literally Opus is right but for me synonym of Heavy Metal is Deep Purple.

Pink Floyd are a lot of things, but they are NOT heavy metal. More like experimental rock.

We have a band (woodwinds and brass, not guitars) that plays at church four times a year, open to whomever wants to play. Basically we play along with the hymns, and a few other songs. One time we had seven tubas – does that mean we had a heavy metal band in church?

I’m introducing my older daughter to the movie “Heavy Metal” today…does that count? (My husband said he wasn’t sure she’d like the music in it. I reminded him that two of her favorite bands are Evanescence and Skillet.)

Real heavy metal is a good banjo with a bronze tone ring. Ever pick one up?

I’ll bet he’s actually thinking of a sousaphone… a tuba is a fairly large brass instrument but the sousaphone looks so much bigger, at least to my eye. But then I was a percussionist and some of our instruments were a bit on the large and heavy side too (which is why there usually aren’t any pianos in a marching band 8^)

For Opus, ignorance is bliss. I’m not a fan of heavy metal, anyway….
