When we moved to Michigan from Pennsylvania, I had a hard time at first with the local dialect. People would pronounce ‘ask’ as “axe” and I got a bit freaked out when they said to “Axe someone.” Weird.

Axe her to sign something else, Steve. And don’t call her Molly Hatchet. She hates that. Chop chop.

I hate to be ever so slightly “culturally insensitive”, but I have rarely heard an African-American speaker say the work “ASK” correctly. I think the one that did, was POTUS for 8 years!
