If you haven’t been to San Francisco you likely don’t know how true this one is. Sure, they have some very good 5-Star restaurants with $$$$-rated menus, but if you’re looking for a regular lunch, or an economical dinner, good luck! In fact, it’s not even that easy to find those fast-food burger joints with the clown head you give your order to … LOL!!
Nothing ever changes. People stick with the known but mediocre things they are comfortable with, which is why we have McD’s, Pizza Hut, BK, Taco Bell, Starbucks and boatload of other well known franchises in almost every airport, central business district, mall food court and at every exit on the internet. Jeez Milo and Binkley, hit Chinatown or touristy, overpriced Fisherman’s Wharf or the best thing you can support, the local Mom and Pop eatery!
Stayed at Grand Canyon and had a great prime rib dinner. Then we went to McD’s to get kids food and it cost more then the prime rib. Well it seemed like it did anyway.
One time we were visiting my husband’s family in South Carolina (we’re in New England). We asked his sister where we could go for lunch. She said that her kids wanted to go to McDonalds! We told her that we didn’t want to go somewhere that we could go to at home (and we don’t “do” McD’s anyway). She was pretty firm, so we told her, fine: she could take her kids to McD’s; where could WE go? She finally gave in & we all went to a Sonic. Her kids were ticked off.
I spent the first thirty years of my adult life in San Francisco. When I left it was a rude awakening to realize that I had gotten used to incredibly good food – often in inexpensive hole in the wall places – that I couldn’t find (at least not at an affordable price) in the other places I’ve lived in.

now it’s also known for elitism and unsupportable rental prices.

Can’t complain about the service, it’s the same at all locations! And make my burger with “SWIZZ CHZZ, PLZZZ!”

Sigh! I visited San Francisco a couple or three times back in the Before Days. Then, yeah, worth it. Now? —You couldn’t pay me enough.
