That last panel has been a personal faviorite of mine, from the "I say to myself clive this is D***** (blame censors) exciting! to just the static shot of bill sans other costume bits but still wearing the wig.

Reference to record producer Clive Davis. Steve has friends in high places.

Must be a 1982 comic. About the time of Ozzie’s bat incident in Des Moines.

This comic is from way later than 1982. Probably more like 1992.

So is Hodge-Podge going to ski or just stand there? (Is air-skiing a thing?)

And how much hill is there anyway?

Looks like “Mr. Catt” [Bill the Cat] has old Clive hooked! I see a recording contract for Deathtöngue on the horizon….

Clive Davis. Head of CBS records and author of the demise of anything resembling originality on the major labels. Ironically, CBS Records’ slogan at the time was “The Man Can’t Bust Our Music” which is pretty rich on the bottom of a promo campaign for Barry Manilow.
