I remember when ice cream cones can in two sizes; 5 cents, and 10 cents. And first class stamps were 3 cents throughout my childhood. Guess how government pays off debt?
Summer of ‘67 – McDonald fries were 15 cents, hamburgers were 18 cents, and cheeseburgers were 22 cents. Unless we had a complex order, we would just add it up in our heads as we picked the order, and then use the chart on the register to add the sales tax. And we would make the change in our heads and count it back to the customer. On busy weekend afternoons and evenings, we would have 8 windows going with lines of 15 to 20 customers each. My first paycheck job.
