I’m fortunate….I often watch eagles searching for prey where I live. Mostly, they catch fish from the lake in front of my house. There is also an eagles nest on the island a half mile away. Even though I can see the white feathers pretty good without binoculars, a telescope is the best way to see them.
Eagles are almost as common as crows here, and they’re just as much a scavenger. I don’t even know whether they actually still hunt – they’re always around roadkill. I do see hawks hunting all the time though. My father and I once stopped on a dirt road and observed a rabbit sitting there looking just like a chocolate rabbit. Suddenly a red-tailed hawk swooped out of nowhere and nabbed the rabbit. It was quite something to see

aaaand that eaglet would be brown, not white, for about 5 years.
