Actually, John Fogarty has been known to sing the ‘Bathroom on the Right’ lyrics on occasion during live performances of ‘Bad Moon Rising’. And John Mammoser has done a song called ‘Bathroom on the Right’ which has gotten a lot of play on the Dr. Demento Show. So Sluggo may be singing the wrong lyrics, but it’s still okay to do it. Just look at Weird Al.

FWIW, Weird Al, Allan Sherman, et al, are a different category altogether. They deliberately parody songs by changing the words (or adding them, in the case of “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”). The humor Sluggo’s expressing is misheard lyrics— check the website I referenced, kissthisguy.com (from Jimi Hendrix’s “’Cuse me while I kiss the sky.”) for more hilarious examples.

Darn. I kinda liked the imagery of tree branches swaying in a summer wind, so that the stars seem to move among the leaves.

I forgot Spike Jones and the City Slickers. Very popular from the thirties through the fifties. Their number one song was Der Furer’s Face.
